Kadikoy - 2009
Here are we with my 3rd post, some Kadikoy, Istanbul, Turkey photos from March-April 2009. The first 10 photos were taken for a contest between Muammer Yanmaz's students. The last one was taken for a daily shot from me and I put it here because it fits this post's subject. :)
You can see the bazaar from Kadikoy. It is open daily and you can find everything fresh here.
As you can see, there is a Orthodox Church in the middle of Kadikoy center. You have to know the history of Istanbul very well. The historical part (Ayasofya, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Big Bazaar etc.) of Istanbul is for sure very popular, well known and touristic. However, you have to give a chance to Anatolian side (specially Kadikoy, Uskudar coast line) for more surprises.
Baris Manco is a legend in Turkey. This was his house in Moda (a small district of Kadikoy, by just walking 10-15 minutes from the ferry stations) and the car plate of his car (initials of his name and his famous children program "7'den 77'ye" name) that he used for many years to travel all around Turkey while making TV programs. Generations have grown up with his music, TV programs and extra-ordinary style.
Moda Cay Bahcesi (Moda Tea Garden) is just 10-15 minutes walking distance from Kadikoy ferry station. This is a lovely sea side place where you can sit, relax, drink a classical turkish tea and enjoy the view of historical European side of Istanbul. By the way, if the place where you stay is at old Istanbul side, than just think for a moment that you actually changed continent and now you are looking at it back, from Asia continent!!
The pier of Kadikoy. I have spent a lot of time here during my teenager times, having chat with friends, drinking beer, singing, laughing... Look at the view, you see the European side of Istanbul and the magnificent Bosphorus. You can see every type of weather condition at Istanbul, even in one day. I love it when the color turns into silvery in grey cloudy days.
Back to Kadikoy bazaar. As I told before, here is everything daily and fresh. The places are open till sunset, so this is rush hour and everybody came to the bazaar after work to select what to cook at home. Fresh sea food is good choice I guess!!
If you are not into sea food that day, there are a variety of vegetables ;)
If you do not want to walk back from Moda to Kadikoy ferry station, this historical tram will help you see around from a different perspective. It wasn't in service for a long time, but thanks to however did this happen again. Just ask people how you can get to the nearest station.
Old municipality building, nowadays "History, Literature and Art library". Just opposite the ferry station.
Haydarpasa Train Terminal, I think it was still in use at those days. I was going back from work to home. The weather was very bad, wind, rain, cold. I hardly could hold my tripod. I was freezing, however photography is just like this. If you have it in mind, it is very very hard to stop you. After several tries, this result was good enough for me under those circumstances. :)
Here you can see Haydarpasa Train Terminal from a better angle in a better weather. This German build structure has bad days for the last couple of years. I hope it is renovated and used again while you are reading this.
