Motorcycle Tour - June 2011 - Pinarbasi & Ilıca Waterfall & Valla Canyon

After leaving Cappadocia and Ihlara Valley, we headed up to North as I mentioned in my previous post. Since it was a long way to the Black Sea coast, we decided to spend the night at Kirsehir. We passed Aksaray and found ourselves in a wonderful road. I was stupid enough not to stop and take a picture, but I enjoyed it very much. :)

The highway road between Aksaray and Kirsehir is something that you would never imagine. Our right and left was full of irrigated lands with lots of colours. The journey took more than 100 km and believe me you would join every minute of it, if you would take it one day.

At Kirsehir, I met a friend from millitary service and we enjoyed the evening together. Talking about good old military service days and what we did after it. It was so nice to see an old friend in this unplanned tour.

We stayed in a "very" budget hotel in the city center and left it in the early morning. We decided to spent another night at Pinarbasi, Kastamonu before reaching the Black Sea Coast. This change was made by my friend Ugur, which was our tour leader basically. I followed him wherever he went. He searched the area from internet and found that there are marvelous nature sightseeing places there and so we were heading there.

I had a mini video camera with me and I just remembered that when we were on the mountains of Daday & Azdavay, which are provinces of Kastamonu. I immediately stopped, put the camera on my windshield and started recording. After we saw the result and the quality of the video, I didn't shoot with it anymore :) You will understand the reason from here, however it is still enjoyable.

And we reached Pinarbasi around noon time. Here is a view from the highest point of the district. We will immediately figure out that there is no cell phone signal at the hotel and we had to drive to this point to reach someone or post to social media. The reason was that the hotel was located down between mountains and they were cancelling signals. Besides, there weren't many inhabitants, so the cell phone companies weren't interested in investing new towers. We climbed the road 1-2 times (6-7 km one way) and than we discovered the beauty of "being offline".

This is the enterance of Ilica village.

And here we are at the entrance of Parkilica Hotel. The cow was nice to welcome us and "yes" you have to cross this tiny and beautiful stream to get in to the hotel. :)

The owner of this place is from this village. He was in wood business, left the company to his children and made this place to his own ground as retirement present. Woow!!

We parked in front of our bungalow and enjoyed every bit of it.

This is the magnificent Ilica waterfall, which is only 500 meter walking distance from the hotel. If you dare, you can swim as well. Do I have to mention that we are above 2000 meter and this water is coming from the mountains you see. ;)

We had a wonderful evening, chatting with the owner, eating, drinking, listening to the orchestra of nature... Wonderful!!

The next morning we left our beautiful hotel and the plan was to reach the Black Sea coast. The only thing that kept us from doing this was "Valla Canyon". (Sorry, I couldn't find a good site in English that describes this place. It is one of the largest canyon in the world and the second deepest at all.)

There was a viewing spot made for tourists. This is what you see from there.

And these are the stairs that you have to climb up. The platform is on a solid rock. Scary but safe!!
